Definition: Common name of several different genera and species in the flowering plants family Asteraceae.

Description: The family Asteraceae or, alternatively, family Compositae, known as the aster, daisy or sunflower family , is a taxon of dicotyledonous flowering plants. The family name is derived from the genus Aster and refers to the star-shaped flower head of its members, typified well by the daisy. The Asteraceae is the second largest family in the Division Magnoliophyta, with some 1,100 genera and over 20,000 recognized species. Only the orchid family (Orchidaceae) is larger, with about 25,000 described species.

Plants in the family Asteraceae typically have one or both of two kinds of florets. The outer perimeter of a flower head like that of a sunflower is composed of florets possessing a long strap-like petal, termed a ligule; these are the ray florets. The inner portion of the flower head (or disc) is composed of small flowers with tubular corollas; these are the disc florets. The composition of asteraceous inflorescences varies from all ray flowers (like dandelions, genus Taraxacum) to all disc flowers (like pineapple weeds).

3d Max Glass with Light

Basic Lights with 3D Studio Max

There are many different illumination techniques that I teach for interior-rendering. This one is quite easy. We will use two different kinds of lights. One is the "MR spot light" and the other is the photometric "free area light". Before we begin, it is very important to inform you that we will use "mental ray" as the render engine (3d studio Max 8). mental ray is a very stable render engine, and it allows for the creation of very realistic renderings.

Since we are using mental ray for this tutorial it is very important to use "real measurements" for all the interior/furnitures that we have to create. Otherwise the result will not be optimal. It would be important to have already a bit of experience with mental ray settings since this tutorial will not explain all settings ( settings about rendering and materials are in other tutorials of the FDA ).

3D max reflect effect

In case of glasses, there is also Reflection beside Refraction. We will now assign a Reflection type to the material. Click the Map button next to “Reflect”. Then choose “Falloff” in the Material/Map Browser and click OK.

In 3d max very easilly we can apply glass meterial for any object, Open the Material Editor and choose an unused sample slot. Name it “Glass” Click the button lebeled “Standard”. We will change the base material type from Standard to Raytrace.

“Falloff” is a special type of mapping technique which defines the area of an object into two parts and distributes the map accordingly. Choose the Falloff Type = Fresnel. A “Fresnel” falloff distributes the map with the logic of Front and Side. In this material, the Reflection will be assigned most to the Side and least to the Front of the object. Because the Black reflect colour is assigned to Front and the White reflect colour is assigned to Side. Turn OFF “Override Material IOR”.
